This is a super cool episode that reminded me about one of the most fundamental problems of all modern science: certitudes hiding the assumptions of theories. An example from outside the archeology realm is Bell's Theorem in quantum physics where everyone conveniently ignores the statistical independence assumption and then builds castles of sand about multiverses and non local spooky actions at a distance instead of realizing that the measuring device is part of the system and statistical independence is not true in any of the experiments we perform.
